What it shows

  • Whether the number is valid
  • What kind of number it is
  • Which provider Ofcom gave it to
  • Links to web pages that mention it, if you ask

Nothing you type is kept or logged.

Got a suspicious text or email too? Use the Scam Checker.

What this page cannot tell you

  • who is calling, or who owns the number now
  • where the caller is: no free source can show that, and a number does not show a person's country
  • whether the number is being faked ("spoofed"): a real, allocated number can be copied by anyone
  • which network the number is on today: numbers move between networks, and this shows only the original provider

So a number that looks real does not mean the caller is real, and a number that looks odd does not prove a scam. If you lost money or are being pressured, see Help and report.
